Canva and Futurize Partner to Empower the Next Generation of African Innovators
Global design platform Canva joins forces with Futurize to equip university students and young entrepreneurs across Africa with design and digital skills.
Futurize, a leading innovation and venture-building platform working with universities across Africa, today announced a strategic partnership with Canva, the global visual communication platform used by millions of people worldwide.
The collaboration aims to equip university students, young founders, and early-stage startups participating in Futurize programs with the design tools and digital skills needed to turn ideas into scalable ventures.
Through this partnership, Canva supports Futurize’s growing community of young innovators with access to its design platform and creative ecosystem, enabling founders to develop professional pitch decks, product visuals, marketing materials, and brand identities as they build their ventures. This partnership also enables young people to become digital designers, create professional content, and generate income through freelance and entrepreneurial opportunities.
At the same time, the partnership strengthens Canva’s engagement with higher education institutions across Africa. As universities increasingly focus on digital capability, employability, and entrepreneurship, Canva will support students and educators with tools that enable visual communication, research dissemination, and venture creation within academic environments. Futurize works closely with a network of higher education institutions to equip students with entrepreneurial and digital skills.
Through this collaboration, Canva becomes embedded within the student and founder journey, from early ideation through to venture creation and investor readiness, and supporting both academic and entrepreneurial outcomes.
Through its Academy, Incubator, and annual Summit and Demo Day, the organization has engaged thousands of students and supported the launch of startups tackling challenges in healthcare, artificial intelligence, agriculture, and climate innovation across Africa.
“We believe that innovation can come from anywhere,” said Moritz Gripp, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Futurize. “Across Africa, we see incredibly talented young people building solutions to critical challenges. Partnering with Canva allows us to equip these innovators with powerful design tools while also bringing creative and digital skills directly into the university ecosystems where many of these ventures begin.”
Design and communication are increasingly critical skills for early-stage founders, from communicating complex ideas and building strong brands to creating compelling investor presentations. By integrating Canva into Futurize’s programs, participants will gain access to intuitive tools that help transform ideas into clear, impactful visual storytelling.
“Africa’s universities are at the center of a rapidly growing innovation ecosystem. Through our partnership with Futurize, we’re embedding Canva directly into these environments, supporting students and founders to turn ideas into ventures through powerful visual communication. This is about more than design tools; it’s about enabling the next generation with the digital and creative skills needed to participate in the global economy,” said Bianca Sibiya, Africa Lead at Canva.
Together, Canva and Futurize aim to strengthen digital and creative capability across African universities and innovation ecosystems, equipping the next generation of students and founders with the skills to communicate ideas, build ventures, and contribute to the continent’s growing knowledge and innovation economy.
